MBC Round 5 Results- A Bit Late

Round 5 of the MBC 2008 season, presented by EBB Mandurah, No Friends Clothing, UNITE, Nomad & Dunes went down in waist to chest high waves at Singleton on Saturday the 9th of August. The waves were pretty average for competition bodyboarding but all the competitors tried hard and busted out as best they could.

The A Division final was the first final into the water. Chad Abbott surfed extremely well to take out his third 1st placing for the year. Chad utilising his many years of local knowledge snuck into a few good barrels on his way to the win. This gives him an almost unassailable lead of the A Division & Club Champion awards heading into the final round of competition. Coming in a close 2nd place was Lane Stampalia. Lane stroked into a few tidy barrels during the heat and managed to combine these with some big rolls and inverts. Following very closely behind Land in 3rd place was his brother Aiden Stampalia. Aiden, like usual, surfed with a very smooth style and showed off some very powerful forward and reverse spins. Taking home 4th place was Aiden Price who was competing in his first comp for the year. Aiden busted a few big rolls but could not find the high scoring waves he needed to place higher than 4th.

The guys in the B Division final once again surfed with a great deal of skill and explosiveness during the final. Taking home 1st place was George Humphries who picked off the bigger bombs and surfed them with a great deal of skill, executing numerous powerful spins and rolls on his scoring waves. 2nd place went to Mr Consistent Cameron Dicks. Cameron has placed in every comp this year and looks like he may challenge for the B Division Title. Like usual Cameron launched numerous large rolls clear of the lip in taking out 2nd place. 3rd place went to the recently crowned State Champion, Calvin Best. Calvin showed why he is the State Champ with some committed moves off the bigger closeout sets. 4th place went to Davis Blackwell who as usual surfed with a butter smooth style. Davis could not find the high scoring waves needed in the final to place higher than 4th.

The C Grade final was the last one in the water. Taking out 1st place with a dominant display was Jake Ellis. Jake returned from B to C Grade for this comp and his improvement was on show for all to see. Jake carved some very powerful reverses on the way to 1st place. Taking out 2nd place was Declan Genge. Declan has shown a steady improvement this year and this showed with some high scoring rolls. The Margaret River charger could be in with a chance of taking out the C Grade Division with some very consistent showings in the last few rounds. 3rd and 4th place had to be split with the Official MBC Count-Back. Karl Mungar and Scott Spencer scored exactly the same wave scores and could not be split on count-back so the Official MBC Count-Back system was called in to split them. Karl took home 3rd place after successfully beating Scott on the Best of 3, Rock-Paper-Scissors Official MBC Count-Back system.

The Winner of the inaugural $50 ExpressSesh was Lane Stampalia who busted out a massive invert in the hour long ExpressSesh. There was some pretty amazing surfing that went down during the ExpressSesh, with many riders looking to the future with numerous flip variations whilst many looked to the past for inspiration with some sweet take off rolls, reverse rolls and rollercoaster riding.
